Are you indecisive?

Choice is supposed to give us freedom yet for some people it seems to have blindsided them with confusion, stress and unlimited options. In a world of ever increasing options and possibilities, do you or someone you know, struggle to make and commit to a decision.

Here are 10 questions to ask yourself to determine if you’re indecisive and what you can do about.

  1. You answer questions – “Yes. No…” but don’t realise you do it.
  2. You always think there is something better around the corner so don’t commit to the present.
  3. You half finish or abandon courses, projects, keep fit classes, diets etc.
  4. You find it very stressful to make a decision from anything from a night out to a career move.
  5. Travel always seems the best way out.
  6. You wait for Fate to deal with situations rather than make a decision yourself. Then when you do, you complain about what’s happened.
  7. You get anxious about making the wrong decision.
  8. Perfectionism is a bit too important.
  9. You’re often exhausted by your indecision and neurotic thoughts.
  10. You “leave the door open” on relationships in case someone better comes along.

In the end you do nothing.

If several of these observations are resonating then you’ll know all too well how difficult it is being you sometimes. How you wish for clarity amid the chaotic choices out there, you are not alone.

With so many incredible choices out there of course it is important to chose the right path and deal with the consequences. But when you are crippled by procrastination and indecision you may find that life passes you by as you ponder away the years.

Here are a few coaching tips to help the flitter-minded settle on a path of purpose and passion:

  • Time your decision making skills in a safe way. i.e. when choosing from a menu – only give yourself 5 mins to deliberate and see that it’s ok to choose quickly.
  • Get new perspective – instead of always worrying what’s the worst that can happen, decide to think the best will – or whatever the outcome you will cope and survive.
  • Start to know yourself more – your likes and dislikes, your needs and values – your confidence increases when you know your strengths and making decisions will become easier.
  • Buy a small note book – this will be your Big Me Up book and list every good thing about you; good friend, make amazing pasta dishes, looks good in purple, great at defending others – and keep adding to it, ask friend too what your strengths are – self-belief has no room for doubt.
